Jeweler Tiffany has appealed against a recent court finding that ruled eBay was not responsible for counterfeit Tiffany jewelry sold on its site.

Tiffany were hoping for a similar ruling to the one given out by a French court last month which ruled eBay was responsible for the good sold via it’s site and ordered the online auction site to pay $61 million to the owners of Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior. eBay has said it will appeal the ruling.
The outcome of the judgement is seen as key to the future operations of eBay who would have to introduce much tighter restrictions on what people can list on the site. eBay has responded that the earlier judgement in the Tiffany case found that the company acted swiftly to remove products once it was aware they were counterfeit.
The company has also stated that it has made “significant investments” in preventing fake goods from being sold on its site.
