California Wildfires dominate Search Engine keyword searches

Lycos today released their monthly  report on what has been most popular Internet search results for the week ending Oct. 27, 2007. 

The biggest search engine movers week ending Oct. 27, 2007:
1.    California Wildfires - 800 % Increase
2.    Saw IV - 700 %  Increase
3.    Dancing with the Stars - 300 %  Increase
4.    Johnny Depp -188 %  Increase
5.    Red Sox -166 %  Increase
6.    World Series - 142 %  Increase
7.    Poker -111 %  Increase
8.    Halloween  - 87 %  Increase
9.    Transformers  -69 %  Increase
10.   Oprah - 67 %  Increase

Marie Osmond’s fainting spell became a worldwide hit on “Dancing with the Stars” (#8) and makes its first-ever appearance on the chart jumping ahead of the World Series (#9), MySpace (#10), and Britney Spears (#12) in search popularity this week.

Search activity for the hit ABC series steps up 300% after Osmond fainted following her samba performance with her partner Jonathan Roberts during last Monday’s episode.  The fainting spell clip became an immediate YouTube sensation.

The California wildfires gain 800% in search activity after ravaging more than 500,000 acres and destroying 1,700 homes in areas of Los Angeles and San Diego. 

The fires, which began on October 21, were among the worst in California history, resulting in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declaring a state of emergency in seven counties. 

The latest movie in the “Saw” franchise, “Saw IV” jumps 700% in search activity this week, slaughtering box office competition, grossing $32 million over the weekend. 

Meanwhile, in the world of sports, the Boston Red Sox were involved in a slaughter of their own, sweeping the Colorado Rockies to win their second World Series title in four seasons, and scoring a 166% gain in search popularity over the past week.
