SEO research – Most people use 2 and 3 word phrases in search engines

Research today from Dutch compnay OneStat reported that most people use two word phrases when using search engines.

Of all the search phrases world wide, 31.91 percent of the people use two word phrases, 27.02 percent use 3 word phrases and 15.22 percent use one word phrase.

“Search engines like Google, MSN and Yahoo can drive a lot of traffic to a web site. It is important that a webmaster or SEO expert knows what kind of search phrases they have to use to drive more traffic to a site. ” said Niels Brinkman, co-founder of OneStat.com.

The 10 most used word phrases in search engines on the web are:

Two word keyword 31.91%

Three word keyword 27.02%

One word keyword 15.22%

Four word keyword 14.75%

Five word keyword 6.49%

Six word keyword 2.68%

Seven word keyword 1.12%

Eight word keyword 0.48%

Nine word keyword 0.22%

Ten word keyword 0.11%

Methodology:
Data collected from OneStat.com’s web analytics services. A global usage share of xx percent for search phrase Y means that xx percent of the visitors of Internet users arrived at sites that are using one of the services by using the particular number of search phrases Y. All numbers mentioned in the research are averages and all measurements are normalised to the GMT timezone. Research is based on a sample of 2 million visitors divided into 20,000 visitors of 100 countries each day.
