comScore : Russia now the fastest growing internet market in Europe

comScore have released data showing that internet usage in Russia is growing at the fastest rate in Europe.
Whilst usage across the continent rose by 8% in Russia it was 27% are outstripping growth in any of the other territories with only France showing anything like a similar increase. Internet use in the Russian Federation is relatively low. In total there was 240 million visits recording in June 2008 with the Russians making up 17 million of those. According to comScore’s figures they are now the 5th highest users of the net despite only having 14% of their population online (compare this to Europe as a whole where 39% of the population is connected).

The expansion will doubtlessly continue and there is massive potential for growth in the Russian market. Russian based websites like the search engine Yandex are becoming busier and busier and with 86% of their population still get go online it is one of the busiest emerging markets.
