Mystery iPhone assembly line girl definitely not fired.

By Andrew Redfern @ 28th August 2008 10:22 am

Over the last week or a “beautiful accident” has made a celebrity of a mystery Chinese factory worker. A message posted on an iPhone website highlighted the odd occurence after a user called markm49uk posted that he’d bought an iPhone with testing pictures still on it.

The pictures of the factory worker smiling and giving a peace sign quickly sparked a huge amount of interest with numerous blogs, news sites and social bookmarking sites carrying the story. This burst of publicity prompted wary ‘net users to fear for the mystery girl’s job.

Yesterday however the iClairified website carried a story stating that Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen, southern China have stated that their newest celebrity has definitely not lost her job. A spokesman for Foxconn said rumours she had lost her job were baseless and said ‘beautiful mistakes’ such as these are unavoidable given the volume of iPhones produced in the factory.

The company are not releasing details of the girl but she is the latest overnight internet phenomenon. According to the Digital Journal website Google.cn has received over 20 million searches in one day on the keyword ‘ iPhone girl ‘ and websites have been set up in her honour.
