According to www.thenorthwestern.com, Yahoo! Inc. will open a technical support center in Oshkosh through a partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
The student-staffed support center will provide technical support to some of Yahoo!’s 17,000 employees.
Initially, 20 UWO students will be hired to staff the center, with 20 additional positions added as they aer needed. Students working part time in the Yahoo! CareCenter will have the opportunity to earn $10,000 or more per year, according to a press release.
The center has been under discussion for nearly two years, beginning with UWO alumnus Adam Kostrzak, senior manager of Yahoo!’s Global Service Desk, located in the Silicon Valley.
Kostrzak said the partnership with UWO worked out because costs in Oshkosh are significantly lower than the Silicon Valley area, and also because of the quality of the students and the ability of the university to work with us to create a successful collaboration.
Three other such centers exist in California, New York and India.
