The company has made $54 million profit in the period which is down from 151 million dollars for the same time last year. Overall quarterly revenues were $1.78 billion.
They state “Because the majority of expenses are headcount-related,Yahoo! expects to reduce its global workforce by at least 10 percent during the fourth quarter of 2008. Yahoo! also plans to implement additional cost-cutting measures aimed at achieving additional structural efficiencies over the next year.”
This is the second round of cuts this year and comes after a downsizing announced in January. It continues what has been a tumultuous year for the search engine in which it has fought off a takeover big from Microsoft, endured a boardroom reshuffle and a stormy AGM and seen it’s proposed search advertising alliance with Google meeting with increased resistance & scrutiny from pressure groups and anti-trust authorities alike.
