Serious security flaw identified in Internet Explorer.

By Andrew Redfern @ 16th December 2008 5:55 pm

A serious flaw has been noted in Internet Explorer promoting some analysts to advise users to switch to rivial web-browsers until the flaw is fixed.

According to Internet security analysts the flaw could allow cyber-criminals to take control of people’s computers and steal their passwords.

The corporation has released a statement saying “Microsoft is continuing its investigation of public reports of attacks against a new vulnerability in Internet Explorer.”

Microsoft  have said they are aware of attacks against IE 7 users and acknwoledge that the vulnerability was present in all versions of the browser. Analysis shows that other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome do not suffer the same flaw.

At present the sites affected are only targetting online gaming passwords however a modification to steal more sensitive information would be possible.

Microsoft are said to be working on a security patch but it’s thought this flaw was new to them and the attacks have caught them unprepared.
