MobiTV, Inc. was awarded top honors at the GSMA Global Mobile Awards held Tuesday night at the National Palace in Barcelona. The awards recognize innovation across a spectrum of categories.
MobiTV was singled out amongst strong competition based on its demonstrated ability to stimulate widespread adoption across existing carrier networks. MobiTV already serves a compelling mobile TV experience featuring popular content and primetime channels to over 6 million subscribers on more than 300 handset models.
“At MobiTV we know mainstream adoption of mobile television is dependent on compelling user experiences and content that is relevant to the consumer,” said Charlie Nooney, CEO MobiTV. “By providing features like immediate session start, fast channel change and a simple user interface, MobiTV is giving users the experience they expect. The GSMA have recognised that in the award we received.”
The 2009 Awards judges said: “A great service with a simple user interface available on an impressive range of handsets - this is likely to encourage greater uptake of mobile TV services.”
MobiTV recently announced that it surpassed 6 million subscribers on its managed mobile media service and that its Media Distribution Platform is now capable of delivering live streaming and on demand video content to the iPhone.
