This may seem like a strange article to read, however when trying to keep uptodate with latest algorithm changes in the search engines like Google to help get the best results for clients. One thing that kept popping up, over and over again, was a strange reaction to one keyword that seems so innocuous.
The word “specialists” is used over and over again in daily life, to explain someones knowledge of a certain industry. What many of you don’t know, is that the word “specialists” also contains the name of a prescription drug that is not allowed to be advertised in the major search engines. The word “cialis” has no advertising bidders in either Google or Yahoo. Yahoo does allow you to pay for advertising on the word specilialists but Google doesn’t.

You may think this could be Googles advanced algorithm to stop such broad matched terms pulling back some results that are relevant to no one. Thats what I thought until I inspected Google adwords keyword tool. Apparently, the advertiser competition for the word “specialists” is at full bar yet no one appears in the advertising section. Infact the only time you ever see results with specialists in the advertising section, seem to be when someone like ask, uses the keyword match tool in order to display the search query in the title.

With all this in mind, I ask all of you out there, have you considered your keywords carefully? This isn’t the only word that may fall under something like this, the word “scunthorpe” is also similar. So if your niche is “used car specialists in scunthorpe” then you could be in trouble when it comes to targetting the bigger keywords. This is all opinion however, as no one knows the full diversity of the Google or Yahoo algorithm, this is just my chance to share my findings and help you as a business, get the most from the internet.
