Profile of a Facebook userby Andrew Redfern @ 13th February 2008 10:33 am An excellent little group Hit Search are part of on Facebook called the “Convergence of social and business networking” group has produced a insightful piece entitled “Profile of a Facebook user”. The survey was running for just ten days on a social networking group on Facebook and the “Profile of a Facebook user” results where as follows: 1. The people in the survey are fairly seasoned Facebook users. 41% have been around for six months to one year; 33% over one year. 77% of people in the survey say they check it at least once per day. 2. While the primary use of Facebook has been friends and family an equal number of people in the group use it for professional or academic reasons. 3. A majority of people belong to a network of some kind and moderately set privacy settings on their profile pages. 4. Over 60% have collected more than 50 friends with 8% of having over 1000 friends 5. The Facebook user has used the power of social networking to meet new ‘Facebook friends’ with over 55% having more than 50 “Facebook friends”. 6. Only 30% of the people in the survey ever removed a friend from thier Facebook profile. 7. While the people in the survey belong to many Facebook groups they are only active in less than 5 of the groups. 8. Facebook applications are still viewed positively in general with much optimism that they are getting better. 9. In general many of the people in the survey are happy with Facebook (80%) and would like to join groups that we see the other friends in or have been invited to join. 10. Finally, demographically people in the survey are in their 30’s and 40’s (65%) primarily from North America and Europe (90%) To see more results go to Facebook questionnaire.
