The row over the changes to eBay’s feedback system has lead to an indeterminate number of users staging a weeklong boycott of the online auction site. According to the company itself about 100 uk sellers have staged the virtual walkout whilst others involved in the boycott say the actual number is nearer 300. What the overall figure will be difficult to guage however such action against a well established organisation like Ebay is an interesting development.
A report on CNN money states that 3rd party souces calculate a 3% drop in the number of auction listings since the walkout began on Monday. This is significant as it negates the effect of a special offer eBay launched last week giving users a reduced listing fees.
eBay spokesman Jose Mallabo said “We’re not surprised. We made a lot of changes to the site that impact a lot of the sellers, we’ve been through a lot of cycles of things like this. [Our users] are as impassioned with the things they’re not happy with, as they are the things they are exuberant about.”
