Hitwise have released data pertaining to web users searches for the London Mayoral Election candidates. As with the mainstream opinion polls they show a sizable lead for Boris Johnson but also highlight a strong surge of interest in the Lib Dem candidate Brian Paddick.
As well as giving a hint on who’s leading the mayoral race the study highlights the importance of Wikipedia in the online presence of the three candidates because if you dscount the official sites the online encyclopedia is the most popular destination for information.
Further to this in terms of providing a point of contact for the various candidate sites social networking sites such as Facebook are proving a rich source traffic.
