GeoSpot’s local search and goes mobile

By Andrew Redfern @ 17th June 2008 6:26 pm

GeoSpot Inc. (http://www.GeoSpot.com), the location-based services and social activities company, announced today a Beta release of GeoSpot(TM) Mobile Web service.

The service is a patent-pending high-performance sweeping search of local businesses and other POIs (points of interest) that are open either now or at a specified time. Instead of listing POIs of which many may be closed, consumers only see those that are currently open or opening soon.

Mobile users can use contextual navigation to find related POIs, see the location on the map, or simply use the one-click phone dial feature to immediately contact the businesses of interest. GPS capability will be added soon. The service works on any mobile phone with a browser. Mobile users simply connect to http://www.GeoSpot.com and GeoSpot servers provide the version appropriate for their mobile phone.

Demand for location-based services (LBS) recently received a giant boost with the popularity of iPhone and upcoming BlackBerry Bold and Android-based handsets.

“GeoSpot(TM) Mobile is a key and natural extension of our Web local search service,” noted GeoSpot CEO Joe Chen. “While Web is ideal for planning trips in advance, mobile phone is the ultimate environment for finding businesses and places that are open when needed the most, often at odd hours. With the summer travel season around the corner, GeoSpot(TM) Mobile’s ability to find ‘what is open now’ can make the trips less stressful and more enjoyable.”

“We envision GeoSpot(TM) Mobile and GeoSpot(TM) Web to be complementary services that will take advantage of the natural strengths of the Web and mobile platforms and coexist in a symbiotic relationship,” explained Peter Braun, GeoSpot’s Vice President of Product Management.

GeoSpot was founded in 2005 with the mission of developing highly advanced location-based services (LBS) software application platform to manage semantically-rich geographical consumer information and activities on the Web and mobile devices. GeoSpot is headquartered in Fremont, California. For more information, visit http://www.GeoSpot.com.
