New iPhone search volume increases by 400 percent

Continuous speculation surrounding the alleged romance between Lindsay Lohan (#1) and disc jockey Samantha Ronson propels Lohan to the top of the Lycos 50 search list this week, while search interest in Ronson shoots up 500 percent. The pair has yet to confirm they are an official couple, despite several photos depicting them in lip locks.

Search interest in the Boston Celtics jumps 577 percent after the green machine slam dunked the Los Angeles Lakers in game six of the NBA Finals, giving the Celtics their 17th championship banner, and their first NBA title since 1986. The unexpected death of NBC newsman Tim Russert continues to resonate with web users. Search activity for Russert has skyrocketed 577 percent over the past week following the journalist’s sudden death on June 13. Russert, host of NBC’s Meet the Press, collapsed at the NBC Studios in Washington, DC, suffering a heart attack at the age of 58.

Responding paramedics attempted to revive Russert’s heart three times before transporting him to Sibley Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Finally, the iPhone gains 400 percent this week as Apple launched the newer, cheaper version of the popular phone. Although it’s not hitting stores until July 11, the latest iPhone features, including a reduced price tag, sleaker physical  ppearance, and new GPS capability, have consumers and web searchers talking.
