Google sued for $1 billion over email migration tool

The IT news today is dominated by reports of a one billion dollar lawsuit filed against Google by software company LimitNone. The Illinois firm is alledging that Google copied their system after first promoting it as an efficient way to migrate addresses from on email system to another.

The suit is aimed at Google Apps the search giant’s software division. LimitNone’s say they were working with Google in early 2007 and built a migration tool called gMove which moved the messages and email addresses from Microsoft Outlook into Gmail.
LimitNone say that Google introduced Google Email Uploader earlier this year, which according to them is “almost identical” to their gMove program. They calculate their loss of revenue to be “about 950 million USD”
