Facebook suspend application developer over privacy violation2nd July 2008 3:08 pm The Inside Facebook blog has today broke a story regarding the Facebook app programmers SocialHi. It seems Facebook have taken the action over their Social Me Facebook application. According to Inside Facebook the application is missing from people’s profiles and you can no longer find it amongst the site’s list of profile add-ons. This is very similar to whqat happened to the Top Friends application last week. Both Social Me and Top Friends were massively popular with Facebook users and so had access to a large amount of user data.
A statement from Facebook merely says According to Facebook, “The Top Friends and Social Me applications have been temporarily suspended by Facebook due to their violations of Facebook’s privacy policies.”. Whether this is merely a technical violation or that some developers have been flouting privacy laws for their own gain it would seem like Facebook is getting more serious about policing the programs that fall under it’s umbrella.
