…in a limited fashion at least.
Many thanks to the Google Sightseeing blog for tipping us off on this. At long last Google Street View has dipped it’s toe into Europe by unveiling a limited set of street level mappings based on this year’s Tour de France root.
Google Street Level view of Paris
It takes in many of the major French towns and cities so if you have visited anywhere along the route it’s well worth checking out the various sights. Cycling enthusiasts can also check out some of the more challenging features of the route like the infmaous mountain stages. It provides an interesting view of what the roads look like for the rest of the year when they aren’t daubed with painted slogans and lined by throngs of screaming fans (as demonstrated by this nice sleepy view of the Alpine stages).
There have been legal rumblings over the use of images containing images of people who have not given their consent so it’ll be interesting to see how this limited roll-out fairs. For the time-being at least we can explore.
