Yandex launches the public version of Yandex.Video

Excellent Russian Search Engine Yandex has launched the public beta of Yandex.Video, the new service for searching and sharing video content. So from today, Yandex users can search videos online and view the most popular video clips.

Today, Yandex.Video searches about twenty video hosting services including youtube.com, rutube.ru, video.mail.ru, smotri.com and myvi.ru. The service’s video search method is similar to Yandex’s search and ranking technology and is based on analysis of names, tags, descriptions and other attributes of video clips.

Search results are ranked considering user ratings. Yandex.Video displays the current most popular videos on its front page, as it receives information about new comments and new videos posted in blogs from Yandex’s Blog Search service. Web users can upload an unlimited amount of personal video files and create their own favorite lists.

“We tried to incorporate in one service everything people associate with the word “video”,” says Denis Tanayev, Project Manager of the service. “First and foremost, videos are being searched and watched, but they are also being uploaded, collected, and commented. Yandex.Video offers an excellent opportunity for all of this.”
