Facebook removes stabbing application amidst knife-crime concerns

Reports today state that the UK’s most popular social networking site has removed an third party application users to add to their profiles that allows them to “stab” their friends. The move comes after recent spate of knife related crime in the UK and huge public backlash toward the casual attitude taken by some to the carrying of knives.
The add-in was available as part of Slide’s SuperPoke application and allowed users to “shank” anyone on their friends list. The option was represented by a small icon of a knife next to the SuperPoke posting options.
It’s a common sense move given the current climate and further shows Facebook is getting tough with application designers after two major applications were recently taken off their system altogether following privacy violations.
California based Slide have taken the add-in off their Superpoke software but have not made any official statement.
