Guardian, UK : Video search specialists Blinkx will roll out a web search tool today that aggregates all the British TV shows legally available free online. Blinkx Remote indexes all the current shows from the broadband catch-up services including the BBC iPlayer, Channel 4′s 4OD, ITV.com and Demand Five, allowing users to sort by genre and title or through a search field.
Suranga Chandratillake, the Blinkx chief executive, said the service was plugging a gap between universal search and the rapid growth of web TV services. Read the full article here : Blinkx launches web TV links site
It looks like Blinkx has it’s sights on being a central hub for legally available tv content allowing users to stick with one site to catch up with their favourite shows. The site will not actually host any of the video, rather it will just be a central directory allowing users to look for any show and then send them directly to the appropriate webpage to actually view the show. Users can also subscribe to RSS feeds and therefore get linked to their favourite shows as soon as they become availabe.
The Blinkx site is quick and efficient and if the service proves popular it will, of course, provide them with the massive throughput of users thus delivering a great audience for online adveritisers.
