The FT roadtest Cuil
by Andrew Redfern @ 30th July 2008 4:02 pm
Cuil.com is causing massive interest across the internet since it’s launch at the start of the week. If hype and chatter is anything to go by the new search engine is definitely off to a flyer.

The big claim central to the appeal Cuil is that it has a more better reach than Google (120 billion sites to Google’s 40 billion). The main concern people are voicing after taking the new site for a spin is the relevacny of the results. The FT rather cheekily typed “Cuil” into Cuil and got a property company in the Republic of Ireland (although perhaps this was just modesty on behalf of the site).
We are some way off being able to judge the new offering but whilst they’ve chosen the toughest place of all to attack Google they do seem to have chosen to stand or fall on the basic principle of the market rather than a mimick. This is to be commended. It is an area, however, the market leader does do very, very well so arriving in town and claiming to be better is very brave.
