Google Reveals Web Browser Chrome Details

In a candid interview conducted for Zeta’s recently launched blog, Google UK’s Communications & Public Affairs Manager, Anthony House, explains how the Incognito ‘porn mode’ can make browsing safer and easier.

Google Chrome is designed to give people a fast, safe, and stable browsing experience, explains House: “We wanted to make the user interface very clean, we wanted to make it intuitive to use. Whatever powerful computer science is going on behind the scenes, we wanted it to be straightforward for people to use.”

One of the cleverest functions of Chrome is the Incognito mode which enables stealth browsing, and was quickly dubbed the ‘porn mode’. If a user opens an Incognito tab, the browser doesn’t record a history or anything entered into text fields. House says: “I use it whenever I look at my bank account details because that means that there’s no record of that happening on my computer.”

Google has revealed that the release of Chrome will not affect its relationship with the Mozilla Foundation, who it works very closely with. House says: “Our vision is that there are good things in both Chrome and Firefox and having more choice for consumers is better and it stimulates more innovation. If we’re competing against other people who are coming up with brilliant ideas, that drives our teams to come up with better ideas as well.”

Google Changes Google Chrome’s Terms For The Better

Mike Yang, Senior Product Counsel announced on the official Google blog that they have already changed the terms and condition of their new browser Google Chrome. Thankfully the changes came from feed from Google users and are changes for the better. Mike commented -

“Whenever we release a product in beta as we just did with Google Chrome, we can always count on our users to come up with ways to improve it.

This week’s example: several eagle-eyed users and bloggers have expressed concern that Section 11 of Google Chrome’s terms of service attempts to give us rights to any user-generated content “submitted, posted or displayed on or through” the browser.

You’ll notice if you look at our other products that many of them are governed by Section 11 of our Universal Terms of Service. This section is included because, under copyright law, Google needs what’s called a “license” to display or transmit content. So to show a blog, we ask the user to give us a license to the blog’s content. (The same goes for any other service where users can create content.) But in all these cases, the license is limited to providing the service. In Gmail, for example, the terms specifically disclaim our ownership right to Gmail content.

So for Google Chrome, only the first sentence of Section 11 should have applied. We’re sorry we overlooked this, but we’ve fixed it now, and you can read the updated Google Chrome terms of service. If you’re into the fine print, here’s the revised text of Section 11:

11. Content license from you
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.
And that’s all. Period. End of section.

It will take a little time to propagate this change through the 40+ languages in which Google Chrome is available, and to remove the language in the download versions. But rest assured that we’re working quickly to fix this. The new terms will of course be retroactive, and will cover everyone who has downloaded Google Chrome since it was launched.”

Google are a shining example of how to launch a product in BETA and then change the product from feedback from user.

Does Google Chrome Have An Impact on Google AdWords?

by Andrew Redfern @ 3rd September 2008 2:34 pm Google Chrome

SEO ConversionsKeyword Report

There have been some rumour and scare stories around the Internet that Google will have some issue when you use Google AdWords. To address this Trevor Claiborne from Google has today posted on the Official Google AdWords blog a full response . It read like so

Today, we announced the beta version of a new open source web browser: Google Chrome. Google Chrome features a simple and intuitive user interface and an entirely new architecture designed for speed, security, and stability while browsing the Internet. For more information on why we built Google Chrome, please take a look at the Official Google Blog.

We want you to know that Google Chrome should not have an impact on your AdWords campaigns.

Google Chrome uses the same open source rendering engine as Apple’s Safari browser (WebKit), so your landing pages and sites should appear in Google Chrome as they do in Apple Safari. The way users interact with ads and sites should be similar as well.

You can learn more about Google Chrome on the features page; or try it yourself at the download page.

You can look out for more of these stories in the coming days as Google tries to develop a product in a very competitive market place.

Review : Google Chrome gets people talking

Over the past 24 hours the web has been flooded with articles and reviews of Google new web browser ‘Chrome’.

One particularly good review can be found here at Techzilo.com.

Naturally we joined the ruch to download and evaluate it. The installation process was basically seamless. Setting itself up and importing settings from existing browsers in seconds. The browser itself has a minimalist feel and at the moment it has a sense that they are just concentrating on the basics. The display and usage of the site was flawless and no crashes or bugs were detected as of yet.

ZDnet’s security blog offers one cautionary note. They say that a combination of two existing flaws in Chrome’s underlying systems could be exploiting to trick users in running malicious executables. However the reaction to the launch of this browser has been pretty positive.

The key thing about Chrome is the fact that eventually it will be able to run a wide array applications and could eventually act as the central application suite for computers, handhelds and mobiles. It’s open source nature means that anyone can develop for it. Users can join this new web developmen t community by going to the Google Chromium homepage.

For years Good have been dening that they have building a browser but all that changed yesterday with the launch of the new Google Chrome browser.

This is with doubt a major shot over the bow at Google’s main rivals Microsoft, which has tried and tried without great penetration to integrated its New (ish Search Engine Rebrand) Live Search into Internet Explorer browse.

Whether its a major threat only time will tell but early indications are that the browser is getting good reviews and is currently around 3% of the browser marketplace. Not bad for a product that been around 24 hours!

Below are two videos taken from the opening press day that give a great deal of additional information on the new Google Chrome browser. Enjoy!
