Google are always trying to bring out new ideas to help bring users coming back on a daily basis. Their latest project was the search engine Caffeine, with a number of algorithm changes and apparently faster and more relevant searches. One that seemed to slip through the net, was the change that was added into Google image searches.

Now when you perform an advanced search for images, you can alter your searches and take into account, license of the image. There has been numerous occasions that huge websites have sent small website owners to court, over apprent owernship of an image. The smaller company has then been forced to pay 100s or even 1000s in royalties and compensation.

This new system from google allows webmasters to mark up images with code to tell users if the image has a license to redistribute or not. Replicated on the other end, is the ability for users to search for images with certain licenses. This is fantastic news for webmasters and web users alike, as people may set up a site that is large and source images from the internet. Simply perform an advanced image search and you can then change the type of image license you are looking for.

There is a youtube video below which gives more information on how to tag up these images correctly. A number of large image publishers should also take not to avoid the hastle of people stealing their images.
