Research carried out by Clash Media, has found that over 3 quaters of companies in the UK are using search engine optimisation as their primary way of generating leads online. What they found to come a close second, was email marketing, which is a great way to reach a databse of users that you already have, therefore they have seen your products. Email marketing however is not a great way in which to create new customers.
Linus Gregoriadis, research director at Econsultancy, commented “During the recession, there has been more focus on natural search and email marketing because these channels are often regarded as more cost-effective.” This is something that we were all aware of as the credit crunch starts to bite even harder than ever. Companies are always looking to increase the number of leads that they receive and clearly, search engine optimisation is their favourite way in which to do this.
Paid search took a little dive from 2008 to 2009, but this could be down to companies wanting a more long term solution in online lead generation. Almost 55% of marketers that responded, admited that they expect to spend more of their budget on search engine optimisation, to help generate more leads.
