comScore data shows Google growth still strong21st April 2008 1:25 pm Live Search comScore data released today shows that despite fears over the health of the Google and it’s online advertising division it is still going strong and increasing it’s share of the search engine market. According the figures published Google upped its share of core searches from 59.2% the previous month to 59.8%, an increase of 0.6% Overall the total number of searches done in March was up 9% with Google outstripping this trend with with a 10% gain. Yahoo retained it’s strong second position with MSN & Live in third place and AOL & Ask in 4th and 5th position. Google’s US market share rise amidst reports of a global decline20th March 2008 12:39 pm Live Search Figures released by comScore today show that in the US Google’s share rose from 58.5% in January to 59.2 in Februrary (although the overall number of searches was 6% less). This was follwed by a report on ZDNet announcing “Google sees dip in global web-search share” and quotes further comScore data as showing a decline in it’s global share from 63.1% to 62.8% month on month. Windows Live in $500,000 donation10th March 2008 9:08 pm Live Search Operation Smile, a worldwide children’s medical charity, today announced that Microsoft Corp. donated $500,000 to the organization as part of a ’sharing smiles’ campaign from Windows Live. The funds will be used to provide free physical examinations and surgical treatment to children in 26 countries in 2008. Microsoft partnered with Operation Smile to commemorate its 25th Anniversary, and celebrate the launch of Windows Live (http://www.windowslive.com), a set of free online services designed to help people communicate and share with the important people in their lives from anywhere they have Web access across multiple devices. The donation culminates a two-month campaign that encouraged Windows Live customers to share photos of their smiles with people around the world to show their support for the cause. The donation from the Windows Live campaign will help enable Operation Smile to provide 2,083 free surgical treatments to children during the upcoming year. “Windows Live is proud to join with Operation Smile in its pursuit to change children’s lives, one smile at a time,” said Chris Jones, corporate vice president of Windows Live Experience Program Management at Microsoft. Operation Smile celebrated its 25th Anniversary with the World Journey of Smiles (WJOS), simultaneous medical missions to 40 sites in 25 countries worldwide. From November 7-16, free physical examinations were provided to 7,414 patients, and 4,086 children born with cleft lips and cleft palates received free surgical treatment during the WJOS. Initial Windows Live Services are already available for Telefónica cellular customers in Argentina and Chile, and for Vivo customers in Brazil, and will soon be launched in a phased approach across the rest of the countries. New features include Store Manager, an e-commerce tool to help small businesses easily sell products on their own Web site and on eBay; and E-mail Marketing beta, to make sending e-mail newsletters and promotions simple and affordable. Small businesses that sign up will receive a valuable set of tools and features for free, including Web hosting; rich site design capabilities; numerous productivity applications; contact management software for performing basic customer relationship management (CRM); and custom domain name registration with 100 business e-mail accounts (custom domains are free for the first year).
