“Lady Landfill” and “Blackeye Lashes” Safe Trip Home - Dido TV Viral

by Andrew Redfern @ 29th October 2008 10:56 am Mother Lay-By

On the 22 of October 2008 Hit Search were the first company to spot and rubbish the recent advertisement that appeared on television for an upcoming movie called “Safe trip home” which had a mysterious one minute advert followed by a called to action saying “Google Mother Lay-By” to find out more.

It turns out that the Mysterious advert was not for a film called “Safe Trip Home” but for squeaky voiced UK singer Dido and her first album in five years.

Dido comments on her official site - “We’re pleased to announce that 11 short films are being produced to accompany the release of Dido’s third studio album, Safe Trip Home. Based thematically around the concept of home, these shorts feature stories of hope, love, commitment and longing, from around the globe, a dump site in Rio, a Mumbai taxi-cab, the rugged coast of New Zealand’s South Island, a Thai boxing ring and a picturesque Portuguese fishing village.

Watch the first four films at www.safetriphome.com now. Choose a location and then begin navigating your way through the films that are housed around the globe. You can then document how each film has made you feel by choosing a response from the colour palette.

“I wanted every song to have its own video or film to represent the album as a whole,” explains Dido. “I love seeing how someone else might interpret a song that is so specific and personal to me. It’s an experiment I’ve been really enjoying, watching the songs be turned on their heads by these beautiful emotional visual stories that are coming out of it.” ”

In summary its a good and noble concept (and its got me talk about it) but surely there has to be a better way promote a product in this way.

“Mother Lay-By” Online Campaign - How not to mix TV and Online

by Andrew Redfern @ 22nd October 2008 10:42 pm Mother Lay-By

A recent advertisement has just appear on television for an upcoming movie called “Safe trip home” and the interesting bit of the advert is that it has a mysterious one minute advert followed by a called to action saying “Google Mother Lay-By” to find out more.

An excellent compelling advert with an novel call to action - Perfect Marketing you would say?

The problem with this type of marketing is that you are really reliant on your website ranking number one in the rankings.

Unfortunately in this case the top ranking position for the term “Mother Lay-By” was for an article in the Kilkenny People Newspaper for a lady who actually became a mother in a lay-by!

News Source “Ambulance crews called to reports of a collision in Birmingham were shocked when they arrived at the scene to find a woman had given birth in a car pulled over in a lay-by.” Link

I am sure the Kilkenny People Newspaper will wonder why there is so much traffic going to an old news story!

The technique using TV to drive people online is very successful but you have to make sure two

  • You rank number one for “Mother Lay-By” (and in all search engines)
  • You are running a PPC campaign and bid on the term “Mother Lay-By”

Simple really…

Anyway if your are interested in watching the video for the new “Safe Trip Home” it appears below
