Further signs of the increased moneterisation drive at Facebook today as it was announced that they Palo Alto based company is to hand over control of it's Marketplace application to Oodle.
This move follows on from Oodle taking over control of MySpace's classifed's earlier in the year. Initial reports say that the application will have a major re-launch in the new year.
Facebooks internally developed the Marketplace application in mid 2007 as an ambitious attempt to turn it's massive userbase into an audience for online classifieds but interest never really took off because they were based around the user's network and whilst the networks allows integration and communication with other network members on a one to one basis the network-wide interaction required for classifieds advertisers to reach their target audience never materialised.
This move will be seen, in the short term at least, as more significant for Oodle than Facebook as it seeks to expend it's reach in the extremely busy classifieds market.
