Many sources today report that Microsoft are ready to make a shock move to purchase the Internet phone and conference service Skype for a vastly overpriced $8 billion.
Skype was bought in 2005 by eBay for $2.6bn which turned out to be disaster as the implied integration to sellers profiles never arrived. Just were Skype would fall into the Microsoft portfolio in not directly apparent and the deals is rumoured to be wrapped up quickly.
Reuters reported last week that Facebook were rumoured to be in talks with Skype to integrate its web video conferencing service into the booming social network.Google were also said to be interested in partnering with Skype for a similar joint venture. Its rumoured that Skype has parked its IPO until the latter half of 2011.
Interesting times ahead for all three players and future of Skype looks to resolved in the coming weeks.
