Apple has called a conference for 7th March, with the rumour mill predicting that they are about to launch the iPad 3.
Invitations that have been sent out to journalists and industry professionals use a picture of a finger touching an iPad, which seems to suggest that the computer giants are set to release the next generation of their tablet device.
The event will be held at the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco, California at 10am local time (6pm GMT), and has been launched with the tagline, "We have something you really have to see. And touch."
New features that are expected to be announced for the iPad 3 include a dramatically improved display with twice the resolution of the iPad 2, and a much faster internal processor.
Apple typically launch new generations of their mobile devices every 12 months or so, and the iPad 2 was launched in March of last year, going on sale across the globe a couple of weeks later. Should Apple reveal the iPad 3 at its 7th March event, it would be reasonable to assume that it would be available to buy before the end of the month.
There are suggestions that Apple will also announce a new Apple TV during the event, which could possibly offer support for full 1080p high definition video.
The Apple iPad is one of the best selling, and certainly most established tablet devices on the market, having sold 55 million units since the first generation iPad was launched in 2010.
