More Than Half Top UK Websites Use Retargeting – Hit Search Asks: Do you?

RetargetingMore than fifty percent of the UK’s top 2,000 websites are using display retargeting, highlighting the benefits of this relatively new online marketing strategy.

The statistics were revealed in Econsultancy’s Display Retargeting Buyer’s Guide. It stated that in addition to 52% of the top UK sites, a whopping 48% of top US sites use remarketing too.

In order to collate this information, researchers looked for tags from top retargeting providers on websites listed by Comscore as the top sites in the UK or the US.

While the retail sector dominates for the use of retargeting, the report shows that these methods are also benefitting businesses from other areas.

Retargeting is a development in online display advertising, which allows advertisers to create highly targeted and personal banners and display ads, by collecting information on individual user journeys. As web users become more and more immune to generic display ads, businesses have sought to find a new way to optimise their ads and improve conversions rates.

With display retargeting tailored banners are created by software which target users who have visited a company site. In ecommerce, these ads can even dynamically pull together images of the products customers browsed for. It is a major development, but not one which only benefits retailers.

Hit Search has championed retargeting for some time and a number of our clients, in retail and other sectors, have gained visible results from improving their display advertising methods.

With a popular opticians and hearing care brand we have managed to significantly increase the number of eye test voucher downloads from re-turning visitors to the site. Re-targeting has also been used to promote a number of offers on the site as well as to increase brand awareness.

Re-targeting has also contributed to a number of view-through conversions for London’s largest catering and equipment hire firm. View-through conversions occur where previous site visitors have seen banners and then converted through other channels such as SEO, email or direct.

Dynamic re-targeting has also worked really well for a UK home entertainment retailer. Dynamic retargeting allows for specific product images relevant to search were displayed to previous site visitors highlighting the importance of the view-through conversion in a conversion path.
